Styling a Denim Jacket with Patches
June 25, 2026
A denim jacket is the perfect canvas. Whether you want a maximalist, festival-ready look or one carefully placed statement patch, here’s how to build a jacket that’s unmistakably yours.
Start with a focal point
Pick one large patch for the back panel — an animal, a flag, or a bold graphic — and build outward from there. This anchors the whole composition and stops it looking random.
Balance color and scale
Mix a few large patches with smaller filler pieces, and repeat two or three colors across the jacket so the eye travels. Lay everything out and photograph it before you commit with the iron.
Don’t forget the collar, cuffs, and chest pockets — small patches in these spots add detail without overwhelming the piece.
