How to Apply an Iron-On Patch in 10 Minutes
June 18, 2026
Iron-on patches are the easiest way to give a tired jacket, tote, or pair of jeans a second life — no sewing machine required. All you need is a household iron, a tea towel, and about ten minutes.
What you’ll need
- Your Patchy iron-on patch
- A dry household iron (no steam)
- A thin cotton tea towel or piece of parchment paper
- A hard, flat surface — not an ironing board
Step by step
Set your iron to the cotton setting (around 150°C) and turn steam off. Position the patch where you want it, cover it with the tea towel, and press down firmly for 30 seconds without sliding the iron around. Let it cool completely, then check the edges. If a corner lifts, press again for another 15 seconds.
Making it last
For anything that goes through the wash regularly, we recommend a few stitches around the edge as backup. Turn the garment inside out and wash cold to keep the adhesive strong for years.
